natural dyed easter eggs

natural dyed easter eggs

for the past several years i have seen these "natural dyed easter eggs" on pinterest. every year i forget to do them until its too late. i planned ahead this year, a whole week in advance haha! i read a ton of blogs about how to do it and ran to the store to get the ingredients for the colors i wanted to try: gray, blue, yellow, and green… aka frozen blueberries, red cabbage, red onion, turmeric, and spinach.

i followed all the instructions to boil each ingredient with a tablespoon of salt for about ten minutes, let them cool, add white vinegar, and toss your eggs in. however, NONE of my eggs turned out the colors i thought they would. i actually love the way they turned out though. i didn't do these to be more natural or healthy. come on y'all, i had a coke while i made them. i just like the more muted colors and thats what natural looks like :) so don't give me too much credit.

ingredients:

1 cup of spinach

1 cup of frozen blueberries

1 cup of red cabbage

1 cup of red onion skins

1 dash of tumeric (in with the red onion skins)

directions:

boil each vegetable with a cup of water and dash of salt. then let them cool down and toss in a dash of white vinegar. the blueberries you add to a cup of cold water and let them sit for about 15 minutes or so, then just remove the blueberries and add the vinegar.

let the eggs sit for a while. like 10+ minutes. i put rubberbands around a couple just to add some stripes. you can totally play with these like that. simms and i had a blast doing these today :) they were definitely extra work than the tablets but i love the colors 100x more.
